So, I have a sick VW. My little Golf GL 2.0 (2.slow as known by the vwvortex folk) is having minor engine problems. Its nothing big, actually shes been sick since I bought her if I’m remembering correctly. Lately I’ve just been in a mood to fix her.
So I’ve been researching my issue all night. Small things like this I like to do by myself. Even though I will be the first to admit I’m no car guy (I just love my VW), I still consider myself a DIY’er. The problem is this: While idling at a stop light or in the driveway, she chirps. A small shudder in the engine. Not all the time, every 30 seconds or so, but enough so that any potential buyer (yes I may be selling her soon) would notice it. So after a night of research, some possible fixes are:
- Clean the MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor
- Clean the IAC (Idle Air Control)
- Replace the spark plugs (Not sure if Bosch of NKG are better yet…)
- Issue with the ECU (Not something I’ll touch without more research)
I’m going to be working on that this weekend I think, I really want to get my car all fancied up and performing well. It’s a good learning experience for me.
I know that’s kind of a lame post for the first in months, but oh well. I just felt the need to post.
