LANning Goodness.

Monday, May 31st, 2004

As with any gamer, I enjoy going to all the LAN parties around town. Last weekend it was Winnipeg Gamer’s
(formerly known as GamingOrgy) 28th Bronx. Was my 5th bronx that I attended, they are always good fun. My gaming rig (if you want to call it that) is out of commission, so one of the guys nicely allowed me to use his laptop. It gamed fine, a bit laggy when bot-smashing 64 bots in BFV, but it was fine in UT2004.

They had Global TV come in and do a short clip for the 11 o’clock news, but they came at somewhere around 10am… as you would assume, not many people were getting up at 10 and gaming already, so there was only about 5 guys there, mostly staff. Even when I arrived at 12ish there was only 8-10 guys there. The day ended off with 15 people, and a ton of rain.

I’ll Be a CEO One Day!

Saturday, May 29th, 2004

Well, yet another Friday night gone by. T’was a good night more or less, but still I sit here at 2:45am on my computer, immensely tired, but I keep truckin’ on. After all my buddies ditched me to turn in for the night, I wander up and down my MSN list for someone to chat with. The ad at the bottom, the one you ignore, caught my eye. Something about Britany Spears (I’m a guy, ok!). I opened the article, read the first statement, and I was hooked, to the X in the top-right of the screen. I then noticed an article about Company CEOs advice to teens. That sort of caught my eye.

Turns out some 17 year old kid emailed about 150 (WOW) CEOs from corporations around the world. Reading through it, I found it to be great advice, and it gave me something to think about – where am I going with my life (and what color Jetta will get me there)! I pretty much know it already, but I did stop to re-think some things. I recommend everyone read it, teen or not. It’s really down to earth and inspiring. Do yourself a favor; it will only take 15 minutes. (Maybe more for slow readers… me!)

Nation’s top CEOs give a teenager some advice

Note: Be sure to check out the list of people who responded to his letters (underneath the article). Makes me have a bit more respect for those companies,
and a bit less for those who I am sure he wrote to but couldn’t respond (Billy).

I have been awaiting Windows XP Service Pack 2 for a while now. Hell, I am already using Service Pack 2 Release Candidate 1, its a very stable beta version (oddly enough), and the new features are good. There are a few things that make me wonder what Microsoft was thinking, such as the firewall not blocking a program which is outbound for the first time. But that’s besides the point. I was hoping they would address these issues with their second release candidate, schedualed for public beta today. Well, I checked Neowin today for a download link (M$s site is impossible to navigate IMO). What a surprise, it is pushed back a week! I am getting fed up with this industry. If you cannot make a release date, why set it? Set the date later then expected, and then announce the product early! That would make you, and your engineers, look amazing! Everyone knows what I am talking about (Half Life 2 anyone?).

If you feel the need to try out RC1, the download link is below. Remember that it is beta, and is not recommended for mission-critical tasks (even though it is stable and provides great security updates).

On a side note, if anyone actually saw this site before today, you will have noticed the design change. I just had some time and wanted something more basic. I will make a fancy site for myself in the near future.

How Modest Is Your Mouse?

Monday, May 17th, 2004

I recently checked out this band called Modest Mouse, thanks to a reference from Kevin Rose over at TechTV. While it is 180 degrees from what I am used to, Im really getting into it. I wound suggest checking them out for any alternative-rockers.

On a side note, my friend is showing me pictures of bisexuals on the internet. Just thought that to be important.

If you haven’t hear of ytmnd.com (Your the man now dog) yet, I recommend you check it out. Quite halarious indeed. Its a bunch of short audio clips with a few words and a gif as a background, all used to express a current event, or simply make you laugh. Any gamers will want to check outreggielution.ytmnd.com. You have to be a gamer to understand it, but non-gamers may also appreciate it somewhat.
